I do have HER2 and EGFR. I am treated at Vanderbilt and they identified my mutation immediately for treatment. My understanding is that Tarceva doesn't and wouldn't work for me. My oncologist, William Pao, who will be featured in US News and World Report for individualized medicine around July this year, suggested Afatinib or Herceptin. I was also interviewed as Dr. Pao's patient for the article. Afatinib wasn't available last year when I was making that decision and I chose Dacamitinib trial at Denver, a sister drug as I'm sure you know. However, I had severe reaction to drug and had progression of disease after many months on it. What I have learned about side effects of chemo is that whatever they say can happen can be the extreme of a side effect. How bad can a rash get? Really bad! I'm presently on Herceptin and Taxol and responding well with a 38% shrinkage to my liver mets after 4 months of treatment. I'll know more about how well Herceptin is working tomorrow after CT scans and MRI., h2 A4 |0 O+ G: J8 }
It's great how interested in mutations and how well you understand the biology of it. I do well to keep up with my own. n+ P. }7 U) K1 y4 W H2 ]6 b E
I think you provide great support for people here who have physicians who haven't done testing for mutations and have more limited options. It helps them understand they have more options. You must research all the time and enjoy it to the max!
